What is the Australian Broadband Guarantee subsidy?

The Australian Broadband Guarantee Program builds on the Higher Bandwidth Incentive Scheme (HiBIS), the Broadband Connect Incentive Program, and the Metro Broadband Connect program by continuing to offer eligible consumers access to subsidised, price capped broadband with a guaranteed minimum level of service. The $162.5 million Australian Broadband Guarantee program aims to fill the remaining broadband black spots – whether in metropolitan or rural Australia.

Westnet, in alliance with The Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA), is making broadband ADSL more accessible to people in regional, rural and remote areas of Australia.

Who is eligible?

Any Australian resident or small business who is unable to access a terrestrial metro-comparable broadband service (either ADSL or wireless) at their principal residence or work location is eligible to receive a subsidised satellite service under the Guarantee.

What does it provide?

The Broadband Guarantee provides; Incentive payments to registered Internet service providers on connection of eligible premises. A High Cost Incentive of $2750 (including GST) applies for Australian Broadband Guarantee eligible Satellite Broadband Services.
